Hi,
I am a crwod funded journalist working in Galveston post-Ike and I was wondering if there are others that are on this site that would like to discuss, trade ideas, etc.
Mark, hi. I'd love to learn more about your situation. How are you crowd funded? For how long? Who funds you, where do you raise the funding, what happens to your work, what's your system, and how' it going? I think I've just asked for a veritable blog post ... "My Life As a Crowd Funded Journalist." ... which certainly could wind up as a post at: http://my.wemediacommunity.org/profiles/blog/list
Thanks for more info, however you choose to share it.

lol, thanks for your interest...
I should probably call myself a crowd funded lifestreamer (because Twitter is how I update most often), but I noticed the term crowd funded journalist has suddenly become popular (does crowd funded lifestreamer even exist?!)...
I came to Galveston TX to report just after Hurricane Ike hit, and after paying for everything to get here, etc., I created a page on fundable.com and was glad to learn that some people were happy to contribute (probably because I also have the "help rebuild Galveston" angle to shoot).
My system, such as it is, is to post/report using the social media sites (Flickr, Nowpublic, Utterli et al) and link to them by microblogging at Twitter.
I've only raised $70 so far, but when you weren't expecting to raise any money, that's not such a bad amount.
I hope that answered at least some of your questions, I'm still in Galveston, if you want to follow my updates on, I'm http://twitter.com/MarkMayhew
I know: it is possible, only if people know that a cause like this is worthwhile. Especially where critical voices need be heard, and credited for social development. What do you think about recent popular protest against the sitting President of Madagascar, over the closure of opposition media? I think on comparative terms, it does matter where people simply seek to enhance causes and impact.
